DC: Dependent clause = subordination / conjunction + S + V /incomplete thought
P: Phrase = preposition / incomplete thought
1. During this term 3200 students are registered at CSL. [Phrase + IC]
2. DC + IC + subordinating conjunction (P.31 in LEAP) = Because I like the students, I enjoy teaching at CSL.
ex. Even though CSL is not near my home, I enjoy studying there.
3. IC + IC + coordinating conjunctions (p.31 in LEAP) = Jimmy listens well, and he likes to correct mistakes.
ex. Francis is tall, but he doesn't speak loud enough for the local we are in.
4. IC + IC + semicolon (;) = CSL is a great school ; it offers many arts and science programs.
ex. It was a beautiful sunny day ; it was really cold for the end of April.
5. IC + IC + semicolon (;) + adverb conjunction (p.32 in LEAP) = Most students at CSL are hard working ; however, some are not.
ex. Julie is wearing a beautiful green dress ; in fact, green is her favorite color.
